Canva Strengthens it’s Position in Europe

London, May 25, 2023 – Canva, the world’s leading all-in-one visual communication platform, has announced its dedication to European markets with the opening of its first European campus in London. Founders Melanie Perkins, Cliff Obrecht, and Cameron Adams shared their strategy for accelerated growth in the region during a media event, unveiling new market research insights. The event also highlighted the integration of Flourish’s data visualisation technology following Canva’s acquisition of the UK-based company last year. Duncan Clark, Flourish’s co-founder, assumes the role of Canvas Europe Lead.

As visual communication continues to shape personal and professional interactions, Canva’s focus on Europe aligns with the region’s increasing reliance on visual content. Research conducted by Canva in partnership with Ipsos, a global market research leader, revealed that visual content significantly influences communication trends in the UK. The partnership engaged 1,000 participants to explore the impact of visual content on their daily lives.

Europe has played a crucial role in Canva’s growth since its inception in 2013, and the region houses some of its fastest-growing markets. Recognizing the potential of Europe’s thriving startup culture and exceptional talent, Canva has strategically acquired six Europe-based companies, including Flourish, Kaleido, Smartmockups, SlidesCarnival, Pexels, and Pixabay. These acquisitions have bolstered Canva’s product offering and technical expertise, representing 100% of its acquisitions in the past four years.

Melanie Perkins, CEO of Canva, expressed excitement about unveiling the European campus, emphasizing the pivotal role European teams play in empowering global design possibilities. She highlighted Canva’s commitment to building exceptional data storytelling features and leveraging artificial intelligence to create magical product experiences. Perkins affirmed Canva’s dedication to doubling down on its European presence to deliver transformative impact.

The integration of Flourish’s data storytelling tool further strengthens Canva’s visual toolkit. Flourish, used by renowned organizations such as the BBC, Sky, and Deloitte, enables users to create captivating visualizations that bring data to life through interaction and animation. Over a million Flourish users have generated over 15 million visualizations, garnering over 30 billion views. As of today, Flourish visualizations seamlessly integrate into Canva designs, empowering users to incorporate interactive and data-driven presentations with animated charts, zoomable maps, and explorable diagrams. Canva also announced the introduction of hierarchical treemaps and packed circle charts, enhancing the native interactive visualizations available within the Canva editor.

The United Kingdom, in particular, demonstrates distinctive engagement with Canva, showcasing a 30% user growth year over year. With millions of unique templates and customized content tailored to serve individual countries, Canva offers a comprehensive creative solution across Europe. The UK exhibits twice the percentage of small businesses utilizing Canva compared to the global average. Canva’s suite of workplace products has gained rapid adoption among enterprise companies, including WPP, BBC, Unilever, and Rolls Royce.
