Chariots of Fire Stage-Adaptation Launches for London Olympics, a leading one-stop shop for London theatre tickets, comments as classic film Chariots of Fire is rereleased and adapted for the stage to coincide with the London Olympics.

The film will begin screening in more than 100 UK cinemas on the 13th of July, two weeks before the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony. With £150,000 in funding from the British Film Institute, Chariots of Fire’s return to cinemas more than thirty years after its initial release is hoped to help raise Britain’s sporting spirit in the run up to the Olympics. Opening alongside the digitally-restored film is the ambitious stage adaptation; after a short run at Hampstead Theatre, the play will run from the 22nd of June to the 10th of November at The Gielgud Theatre in the West End.

The stage adaptation of Chariots of Fire is written by Mike Bartlett from Colin Welland’s original screenplay, and directed by Edward Hall, the Hampstead’s Artistic Director. As with the film, the stage performance follows runners Harold Abrahams and Eric Liddell, both of whom won medals at the 1924 Paris Olympics in the face of incredible odds. Featuring an onstage running track and the classic score by Vangelis, Chariots of Fire is set to stun fans of the film and newcomers alike.

“As the 2012 London Olympics is getting close, many people are truly embracing the spirit, and we’re sure Chariots of Fire will help get people even more excited,” a spokesperson for said. “With a unique stage set-up everyone will recognise, this adaptation should delight both existing fans and those unfamiliar with this inspirational story. Tickets for Chariots of Fire are available now, so why not get into the Olympics spirit and experience a stage performance unlike any other?”
