Chic Teak, a leading supplier of outdoor garden furniture, have become proud sponsors of St. Cross Symondian’s Cricket Club in Winchester, Hampshire, and have recently supplied a tree bench for the Mark Parker Trust.
The trust was set up by the parents of Mark Parker, who died in the Bali bombings en-route to New Zealand to play cricket. The aim of the Trust is to help young New Zealanders reach their potential and identify and support future leaders.
The Mark Parker tree bench was specially commissioned by the trust and encompasses the large old chestnut tree in the cricket club to make it a real feature of the ground. Chic Teak was chosen as the supplier for their ability to manufacture quality teak furniture and design a bespoke bench for this specific requirement.
The installation was a particular challenge as not only was the chestnut tree impressively large, but it also had a complex array of aged roots which involved building a decking all around the tree to support the bench. Upon completion, the seat was over 3 metres in diameter and will seat up to 20 spectators.
Chic Teak Managing Partner, Robert Bowden, commented: “We were delighted to have been given the opportunity to support this worthy cause and design The Mark Parker Memorial Tree Bench, which is based on our popular tree bench design and manufactured in Indonesia using professionally kiln-dried, A-grade heartwood teak, and will provide many years of use.”
