Marilena wins the International Alexandria Song Festival 2009

marilena maltaLocal singer Marilena, represented Malta at the Alexandria Song & Music Festival 2009 held in Egypt with her International Malta Hit SC 2009 entry, “Unforgettable” penned by Gerard James Borg to the music by Philip Vella. This can be considered as yet another successful story for this year’s edition of the International Malta Hit Song Contest.

The songwriters Borg are Vella are synonymous to their several Eurovision entries including Malta 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007 and 2008.

Marilena faced a tough competition in Egypt from other 41 competitors, however at the end she managed to convince the International jury and emerged as the winner. The contest was held on Friday 10th July 2009.

This was the seventh edition of the Alexandria International Song & Music Festival. The Alexandria Song Festival is a singing competition with a selected International Jury held under the patronage of their Excellencies Minister of Culture, Minister of Tourism and the Governor of Alexandria, Egypt.

Marilena represented Malta and won the Alexandria Song & Music Festival 2009 with the Malta Hit Song contest 2009 entry, “Unforgettable”. She had also taken part in the 2008 edition with “One Goal”.

In 2004, Marilena represented Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest as a member of the Young Talent Team with their entry ‘Power of a Song’.

The committee of the International Malta Hit Song Contest is made up of Deo Grech, Ray Falzon, Ignatius Farrugia, Norman Hamilton (President of WAFA) and Robert Cefai (General Secretary of WAFA).
