TeknomekTeknomek use innovative web marketing techniques to help beat recession

Over the past year, numerous small businesses have suffered drastically from the effects of the current recession. These businesses’ are now seeking new marketing techniques to help recover from this economical downfall.

Today, most business-to-business enquiries start on the web. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is therefore an invaluable Internet marketing strategy to expand the volume of traffic for a website to generate Customer interest.

Technomek, based in Norwich, England, are one of the first small businesses’ to embrace the power of the Internet, in order to consolidate its position during the Recovery. Teknomek, producers of hygienic stainless steel furniture for Food, Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industries, have engaged the services of Icelandic based search engine optimisation agency, Nordic eMarketing, to develop its online presence.

Managing Director at Teknomek, Tom Worth, commented: “Nordic came on board after we had engaged a local web designer to build a new website for us. Their initial brief was to develop our web presence without touching the basic web design. However, we pretty soon found out that unless the platform technology is capable of supporting SEO, the results can be disappointing. Simply by changing the way some products were organised, we destroyed the work Nordic had done for us and our traffic plummeted. We were faced with a choice: stick with the current supplier and make the best of bad job, or find a new web platform that would really drive our web presence.”

Teknomek finally decided to replace its newly developed web platform for a Content Management System (CMS) that could support the SEO programme. Lucy Cook, head of marketing, explained “In order to minimise the disruption to our customers, we left the basic look the same, but underneath was a state of the art CMS that gave us all the flexibility we needed.”

Since the launch of the new website in September, the number of visitors have increased by almost a quarter. This extra traffic has been gained by steering the right people to relevant links on Teknomek’s website.

“This is great exposure for our products.!” stated Mr Worth. “Most importantly, we are seeing a similar increase in the proportion of our sales referrals originating online.”
