Songs ‘From The Sun’ light up venues across the UK As Vonda Shepard’s tour reaches Britain

With 12 million album sales to her name, 2 Golden Globes, 2 Emmy Awards, 2 Actor’s Guild Awards as well as a Billboard prize for selling the most TV soundtrack records in history for the Ally McBeal TV series, Vonda Shepard truly is a global icon. Performing material from her first studio album in 5 years, the New York songstress will be delighting audiences up and down the country as she announces her UK tour.

In a Hollywood moment that was years in the making, Vonda’s meteoric rise to fame began when she caught the ear of television producer David E Kelley who was so captivated by her music that he vowed to use it in his television show. That show was multi award winning comedy drama Ally McBeal and over night a musical star was born!

Her latest album From the Sun (released February 23rd) finds her returning to her indie roots, infusing her deep and melodic song writing style with splashes of powerful blues-inspired vocals and delicate piano.

‘From the Sun’ is Vonda’s first studio release since 2003 and her fourth collaboration with legendary producer Mitchell Froom (Crowded House, Elvis Costello, Randy Newman). It also features guitarist James Ralston (Tina Turner), bassist Jim Hanson (Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen), and drummer Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Tori Amos, John Mayer), as well as mixer/engineer David Boucher (Daniel Powter, Indigo Girls, Andrew Bird).

Vonda, one of four children was born in New York and moved to California at a young age where she picked up an affinity for the piano and a love of music, which led to her playing her own material on the L.A club circuit by the tender age of 14. She then toured as a backing vocalist for many years with the likes of Rickie Lee Jones and Al Jarreau. This is where she honed her signature vocal style that she has since become renowned for. 1987 was the beginning of Vonda’s musical journey when she released ‘Can’t we try’ which landed in the top ten.

This was followed by her self titled album Vonda Shepard which received wide spread critical acclaim and yielded the single Don’t Cry Ilene which broke into the top twenty and stayed in the charts for 12 weeks.

In a career that shows no sign of slowing down she has released six studio albums as well as a live album. With such a wealth of material to draw upon, her live performances truly are unique and unforgettable experiences. Vonda’s tour continues at the following dates:
