Icelandic musician to become Womex ‘samurai’

Former Sugarcube and all-round Icelandic music veteran Sigtryggur Baldursson has been chosen to sit on the jury for the prestigious Womex world music festival, held this year in Seville between Oct 29th – Nov 2nd.

Sigtryggur, a practicing musician/producer and part owner of label Smekkleysa (bad taste), is very active in the music scene in Iceland, collaborating with many local artists as well as running his own projects Steintryggur and Parabola and calypso act Bogomil Font.

He also sits on the board of the Iceland Music Export office and FTT, the Icelandic music writers and lyricists association.

Sigtryggur will join six other ‘samurais’ from Italy, India/UK, Germany, France, USA/Mexico and the Netherlands. The jury will meet in Berlin Friday 23 – Sunday 25 May 2008. The process is to select at least 30 of the showcases and consult on the conference sessions.

Part of Sigtryggur’s task as jury member will be to encourage his favourite artists, conference speakers and/or their representatives to make showcase and conference session proposals.
