Britons are being more adventurous in choosing holiday destinations as they search for the sun

Amid the doom and gloom of a poor summer and talk of the credit crunch, increasing numbers of Britons are choosing to spend their hard earned cash on holidays in less than traditional locations. Sales of holidays in luxury destinations, such as the Caribbean, are on the up in 2008, says www.holidays-direct.co.uk.

As falling house prices and rising fuel costs begin to bite, British holidaymakers are making sure they get a holiday to remember this year. An analysis of holiday bookings made through online travel agency www.holidays-direct.co.uk reveals an increase in the number of people booking holidays in destinations more traditionally associated with the luxury end of the market.

This is in contrast to an overall caution by holidaymakers and strongly suggests that if people are investing in a holiday, they are making sure it is a memorable one.

The poor weather in Britain has certainly been a good thing for the travel industry as thousands each week jet off to the sun.

This summer has seen higher than average sales for holidays in the Caribbean, Dubai, Thailand and Tunisia.

Holidays in Spain and Egypt are once again the top selling summer holiday destinations.

Freedom Direct reports strong bookings for summer 2008 despite economic concerns

Summer holiday bookings going strong at Freedom Direct

Summer holiday bookings have not suffered despite all the concerns over the economic situation, nor has the strong Euro affected the popularity of holidays in Spain and other favourite holiday destinations in Europe, reports online travel agency Freedom Direct.

Holidaymakers know how to find the best holiday deals, and there are plenty of bargain holidays available for summer 2008 – many of them in the Spanish Costas and other holiday destinations that use the Euro.

Freedom Direct has seen a very high a number of holiday bookings for the summer in these Euro countries, but they have also detected that the strong Euro has boosted interest in holidays in Egypt, especially the Red Sea, and many other non-Euro countries.

Family holidays for summer 2008 are especially popular – a recent survey* found that 95% of families are definitely or very probably going on a holiday this summer.
