The Museum of Copenhagen is currently hosting an imaginative exhibition on the bicycle culture of Copenhagen. The exhibition follows the history of Copenhagen’s bicycle tradition from the Draisine to the modern bicycle. The exhibition explores the biking habits of Copenhageners throughout the ages and focuses on the representation of bicycles in art, literature and popular music. The exhibition will also contain a number of personal tales of cycling and the city from known and unknown contemporary Copenhageners. Prominent local inventions such as the Long John or Christiania bikes are also on show.
With thirty-six percent of Copenhageners travelling to work or school on a bicycle cycling is one Copenhagen’s most popular forms of transportation. Read more…

Due to its many centuries of isolation, the breed has developed strong characteristics and distinctive features that make Icelandic horses particularly prized among horse lovers the world over.

They also have a unique appearance, with their thick coats and long manes which help keep them warm in the harsh winter. The Grand Hotel Reykjavik triumphed this year by accommodating the World record-breaking paralympic athletes of the 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships.
A winning performance was provided by the Grand Hotel Reykjavik for this year’s record-breaking paralympic athletes throughout the 2009 IPC Swimming European Championships, held between 18th-24th October. Britain’s Kim Lumley won the Women’s category in the world famous Catalina Water Ski Race at Long Beach California on Saturday for the 7th time. Incredibly, she also finished 3rd overall amongst the Men, with former World Champion Todd Haig (USA) winning overall for the 9th time.
The 27 year old Cambridgeshire athlete shattered the all-time Women’s record by 5 minutes in this 61st running of the Catalina Water Ski Race which sees skiers and 45 foot Miami Vice style powerboats race from the Queen Mary at Long Beach to Catalina Island and back in the annual 64 mile international event. Reaching speeds of almost 100mph in the shark infested ocean, Kim fought off competition from other top women from around the world including all but two men.

Employees from Hammersmith-based Avanta Managed Offices are planning to take part in a 5.6 Km race to help raise funds for the UK’s leading children’s medical research charity, Sparks, as part of the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge 2009.
“Our team is made up of ten people from across our 18 business centres,” comments Anna Haslam, Avanta’s marketing manager, who will be leading the team when the race starts in Battersea Park at 6.45pm on the evening of Thursday 9th July. “We are really looking forward to this event as we’ve got a really enthusiastic team taking part and are hoping to raise over £1,000 for Sparks.
