Nigeria Petroleum Minister Alison-Madueke inaugurates National Refineries Special Task Force

ABUJA, NIGERIA–(07/03/12)- In keeping with the transformation agenda of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration and her resolve to reform the oil and gas industry, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has inaugurated the National Refineries Special Task Force.

The task force which is charged primarily with the task of working out modalities for Nigeria to attain self-sufficiency in petroleum products refining is headed by former Minister of Finance, Dr. Kalu Idika Kalu, with Mallam Yusuf Alli as alternate chairman. Read more…

Power producer in Iceland offers most competitive European rates

Iceland-based power producer Landsvirkjun, producer of electricity from renewable hydro and geothermal sources, announced earlier this week that it currently offers 43 USD/MWh on up to 12 year contracts to industrial companies.

“These are Europe’s most competitive rates in terms of price, length of contract and the fact that on top of that we offer 100 percent green and renewable power,” said Magnus Bjarnason, EVP for Marketing and Business Development. Read more…

Court dismisses motion for interlocutory injunction to prevent reappointing Diezani Alison-Madueke as minister

ABUJA, Nigeria (eNewsPR- July 7th , 2011) – On July 6th 2011, the Nigerian Federal High Court dismissed a motion for interlocutory injunction to prevent President Goodluck Jonathan from reappointing Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke as the Minister of Petroleum Resources. The potential injunction was also set to prevent the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from screening and confirming Mrs. Alison-Madueke as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

This motion for injunction was founded on an originating summons filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja on behalf of the plaintiffs Makelemi Erhuvwurotu and Afri Network For Environmental & Economic Justice Limited by their lawyer G.M Oguntade SAN seeking mainly a declaration that Mrs Alison-Madueke did not partake in the National Youth Service Corp and was therefore not qualified to be a Minister by virtue of the provisions of the National Youth Service Corp Act. Minister of Petroleum Resources denies NYSC accusations

ABUJA, Nigeria (eNewsPR- Jun 28, 2011) – Diezani Alison-Madueke (Often incorrectly spelt: Diezani Allison-Madueke), Nigeria’s first female Minister of Petroleum Resources, has denied all accusations that she ‘skipped’ the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Alison-Madueke states that she was granted exemption by the Nigerian Authorities when she returned to Nigeria after attending university in the United States. Alison-Madueke completed course work for a degree in Architecture from Howard University, Washington D.C., U.S. in 1987, at the age of 27; however, her Degree Certificate wasn’t awarded to her until 1992. Diezani Alison-Madueke denies reports of illegal oil block sales

Diezani Alison-MaduekeABUJA, NIGERIA — (eNewsWire – June 10th, 2011) – According to the Nigerian business and political news channel, THISDAY, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has denied reports that an illegal sale of three oil blocks to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), the oil exploration and production arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) took place.

It was reported that the facts regarding oil mining licences, OMLs 4, 38, 41 being improperly and illegally assigned to international oil and gas company, Seven Energy International Limited, through its Nigerian subsidiary Septa Energy Nigeria Limited were jumbled up and that “no sale of oil blocks took place at all”. Landsvirkjun to seize opportunities in green electricity production in Iceland

Landsvirkjun, the Icelandic renewable energy company, recently held its AGM at which it announced that the company is ready to seize opportunities in green electricity production in Iceland. Landsvirkjun also showcased other opportunities ahead and presented the company’s financial report for 2010.

Iceland’s Minister for Industry, Katrin Juliusdottir, opened the AGM; saying that as a public sector company, Landsvirkjun needs to do all it can to continue to be trusted by the public and that government must, in turn, make it as easy as possible for the company to expand with everyone’s interest at heart. Loan agreement for Hydroelectric Project in Iceland signed by Landsvirkjun

A new loan agreement has recently been signed between Landsvirkjun and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) for the funding of the Budarhals Hydroelectric Project.

The agreement amounts to roughly 8.6 billion ISK (USD 70 million) and has a Maturity Date in 2027, as well as a favourable margin. This is the first loan that the Nordic Investment Bank has granted to an Icelandic company since October 2008. Read more…

Sub-sea cable to Europe carrying renewable energy studied by Icelandic power company

A study is being conducted by the Icelandic power company, Landsvirkjun on how realistic it would be to construct the world’s longest sub-sea cable to Europe, to enable the expansion of renewable energy sales.

Landsvirkjun’s study focuses on the potential business models, markets and congestion management, whilst also focusing on the export and import of electricity based on price differences between the European and Icelandic market. The Icelandic power company is also examining the impact on the Icelandic power market, security of supply in the Icelandic power system and resource management in Iceland, with emphasis on the use of the hydropower capacity.
