Data center report shows UK data center market and services to lead EU countries

The UK data center market will lead in capacity over the next five years, with space more than double France or Germany by 2014. The UK has the greatest breadth of offerings with more than 150 data center providers. Increasing data center demand and investment across western European markets, and the factors that restrict this growth form the background to a new report from BroadGroup – the third bi-annual European Data Centre Market.

The report covered 17 European markets (excluding internal usage and outsourcing services), and revealed significant growth would occur in the UK data center market over the next five years with an overall increase of 74 percent in space; the largest in Europe. Wholesale data centers in the UK were expected to occupy the lead market share by space representing 62 percent by 2014. The UK and German markets are tied in terms of country importance, which in both cases represents around 20 percent penetration. Read more…

Business Telecommunications and Finance Summit announced by CTO and BroadGroup

Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon receives record registrations from 71 nations

Vidar Sports Club, the organiser of Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, has received a record number of registration for this weekend’s event. Vidar expects close to 16,000 people from 71 different nations to run one of the distances covered; marathon (42,195 metres), half marathon (21,097 metres), 10 kilometres and three kilometres. If the forecasts for participation hold good, this event will set a new record for a street race in Oslo. The previous record is 14,192 runners set in 1994.

Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon, held on the last weekend in September annually, is Norway’s largest street marathon. First staged in 1981, the race attracted a record 14 000 runners in 1994, but interest in jogging declined around 2000 and it was not staged in 2002-03. Due to this, in 2004 the organisation of the event was taken over by the Vidar Sports Club and now in its 28th edition is going to be bigger than ever. Read more…

Grete Waitz Supports Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon for Cancer Charity

Former Norwegian marathon runner, Grete Waitz, who won nine New York Marathons between 1978 and 1988, will be attending the Fokus Bank Oslo Marathon event in support of the Active Against Cancer charity.

Waitz attended a press conference about the event earlier this week and contributed many words of advice for marathon participants including; be properly rested, be in good time, dress for the conditions, tailor your speed to your fitness, be realistic and do not start too fast, and drink at every station. International film festival kicks off today in Reykjavik Iceland

The 7th annual Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) kicks off today in Iceland, with both International and Icelandic films from a wide range of alternative and independent cinema being shown over the space of 11 days.

The Reykjavik International Film Festival began in 2004 by a group of film enthusiasts and professionals who wanted to create an annual international film festival in Reykjavik. The independent film festival has since become one of Iceland’s most popular cultural events.

McSweeney’s and Oddi Printing’s collaboration discussed in a new book

A book, entitled the Art of McSweeney’s, has recently been released showcasing the award winning artwork and book design from the American publishing house, McSweeney’s. The book, released by the U.S. publishing company Chronicle Books, is to celebrate “the 11th or 12th anniversary” of McSweeney’s.

Within the book, the Founder and Editor of McSweeney’s, Dave Eggers, explains how coincidence led him to Oddi Printing, a printing company based in Reykjavik, Iceland, “who often played an important role in design decisions based on materials and processes in printing and binding.”
